Site History

History of this Web Site

This web site began by trying to collect information about the 594th Engineer Boat and Shore Regiment of the US Army during World War II.  We asked for information and it came. Not all of the information concerns this particular regiment; this regiment being only one of several units making up the 4th Engineer Special Brigade.  There were several other Engineer Special Brigades as well and this site is presently collecting information and links about all of them.

Organization of this WebSite

As the amount of information increased, we began to realize that we should give more effort to organizing it in a comprehensible manner. The latest attempt divides the information into Brigade-specific chapters. We include a chapter named “This Site” (this is the Chapter you are reading now) in order to explain the organization of the site and to present information that is general to all of the Engineer Special Brigades. In addition, we hope to provide a chapter which will index the photos on the site.

Organization of the Chapters

Each chapter is generally divided under the headings of Introduction, History, Veteran’s activities, Fallen Comrades and Links.  The “This Site” chapter will also have a heading for Site Changes.

The Introduction heading will attempt to name the people who have contributed the most to our information in this chapter. It will be an area to notify you of any peculiarities in the way the data is organized. We will also use this heading to plead for your help in getting specific information.

History will cover Brigade-specific information. The exception is the “This Site” chapter which will contain general information about the Engineer Special Brigades.

Veteran’s activities will cover past reunions and post the time, place and contacts for future reunions.

Fallen comrades will attempt to list those veterans who have died. People interested in a memorial page are welcome to send photos, text and other information concerning specific veterans.

Finally, Links will attempt to provide Brigade-specific links if they exist.

How can you help?

As mentioned above, if you have information about the Engineer Special Brigades, send it to us. If your father, uncle, brother or other relative served in one of these units, drop us an email.  We would like more tall tales about the veteran’s service experiences as the veterans relating these stories are a vanishing resource.  Help us remember the brave men who served in the Engineer Special Brigades.
