THE FALMOUTH ENTERPRISE

Bob Phelan has sent copies from this New England paper from the war years. They give an interesting chronological perspective of the events at the time as well as explain specific things about the amphibious units. For example, the meaning of the amphibious insigne is discussed, the history of the units and the officers involved in the training are laid out.  Little things like the fact that they had to ban the singing of the “Eyes of Texas” in the USO hall will give you an appreciation of the times.

History of the 2nd Engineer Special Brigade

Jack Fontz loaned us a book that he had and has since donated to a local library.  The book is Copyright 1946 by the Telegraph Press in Harrisburg, PA. We don’t know who owns the copyrights at this time so consider this material copyrighted. The 532nd, the 542nd and the 592nd EB & SR units were in that brigade along with numerous other units detailed in the book.  Charging Japanese singing the “Eyes of Texas”?; pretty strange, no wonder Mass. didn’t allow it.
